Just a bit more about myself

Dreamer Persona

My name is Lucas Nasson Kim & I am a believer.

I believe miracles are unexpected dreams that do come to reality. I was born in Brazil, in a beautiful city called São Paulo. At a very young age, I was what you consider a “daydreamer”. Many of these dreams were translated through comical drawings and odd superhero plays that led me to believe I would become a great filmmaker one day.

When I was 14, due to my father’s call in life, my family moved to the United States, where many of my dreams took a different route and shape. Having the privilege of meeting brilliant and influential people throughout my life, I was fortunate enough to be guided by this indescribable divine road; a road where everything fell into place without accordance to my planned agenda.

This sums up most of my life. I know I am not in control. But at least, I am enjoying the ride.

Why I Like to Product Design

As a designer, my fascination with product design (compared to other designs I have previously worked with) is that:

  • It seems more reactive (you must interact with it to see what it does for you, & not just stare)

  • It’s a team/group effort (machine learning engineer, data engineer, frontend engineer, backend engineer, product manager, product designer, testing moderator, and of course most importantly the User).

  • It’s not dependent on one person (me), but on many (the actual Users). So your award-winning-mind-blowing initial solution might not be the necessarily the winner at the end.

  • It’s problem-solving (instead of just making something beautiful, which can also be a bonus). But the journey can be challenging just like sculpting a gorgeous statue.

  • It’s too big and it keeps on expanding, giving product folks a small sense of never-fully-knowing-everything, but instead pushing to evolve, hopefully avoiding stagnation & arrogance.

By meeting great people along the way, I was able to collaborate & especially learn alot of the things I actually do today. So thanks to them (and many random talks over a nice cup of coffee), I became the designer I am today.
